Let's use the blog to discuss the dates of the Soo event - just click the "Comments" link below the post rather than starting a new post.
I believe the weekend of August 29/30 is pretty much set in stone. The issue was having the tournament on Saturday vs. Sunday.
For those of you who haven't experiences our Soo trips, I'd encourage you to do so. In addition to some outstanding scenery and a truly unique fishery, there is a lot of fun with club members. People stay in motels, the campground at the launch or many stay in Kinross at the Countrywood Cabins. Usually many come up to fish Friday and Saturday before the event and there is a large outdoor fry-a-thon dinner on Saturday night with walleye, venison, turkey, etc hitting the fryers (more food than we all can eat...and good too!).
From a tournament/fishing perspective, it usually is the case of a few teams nailing it with numbers of large (5lbs+) fish, a few teams catching lots of small fish (14"-19"), a few teams catching a few fish and the rest of the teams struggling a bit. You can run bottom bouncers, troll cranks or harnesses, drift or troll rigs, pitch or vertical jig, etc - the fishery let's you experiment with many techniques.
Back to the date thing....the new idea of having the "tournament" on Saturday was to be able to talk about the successes or failures of fishing that night at the cookout (or fryout). It could be something of a learning/sharing session where everyone could see and learn what worked and then go out on Sunday and try for themselves if they desired.
A drawback would be that there would be one less day to find fish prefishing for many of the teams. The idea of sharing the information is somewhat stolen from Lance Valentine's Trophy Hunt trips if anyone has experienced them.
Anyway - this was long - thanks for reading, now what are your thoughts. Also please state whether you are planning to fish the Soo trip or not.
Thanks,
Bob
