Christmas bonanza!!!!
Well the gifts are starting to roll in and people must know me pretty well because they all are about fishing!! $50.00 gift card at franks, "yes". A new mister twister electric knife, clean more fish quicker. A collection of Smithwick lures will make me tougher to beat in the spring, I hope. Most important of all, only 3 months till open water and fishin. I can only hope everyone in the club fares as well as I for Christmas. For those of you who ice fish, good luck on the ice. Merry Christmas to all, and a great new year!!

Ideas for Walleye @ Brown Trout
As discussed at the October meeting, quite a few things have changed with the Brown Trout Festival and administration. One huge thing is that now all changes are run through the whole group, not just the board (as 4 have left).
To this end, Denny is our representative on the group and needs some ideas. Rick Konecke (sp?) is trying to formulate all the ideas for the fishing side of things and is going to have a meeting/discussion/ideas/gripe session at ACC - Granum Theatre on Oct 29...I think - check with Denny.
Let's use this post as a forum to get our ideas out there. I'll start and list some that came up at the meeting and have been discussed before:
1. Start BT on Monday so the Walleye event is stand alone.
2. Do not require the $30 additional BT fee - make it an option for those who may want to play for "board" fish.
3. Give actual/factual 90-100% payback - don't even need trophies.
4. Pay winnings at end of tournament
5. Need SERIOUS advertising 150 mile radius from Alpena
6. Live release
7. Spread out the sponsorship money to offer a guaranteed purse
8. Run the payouts for the Super and the Walleye the same - pro-rated for # of boats.
What else is out there?????

Hubbard Lake was a blast!!!
Great weather, great fishing, great competition, turned into a great day for everyone who fished. Wayne and Eric once again proved they are tough to beat. Congratulations big time to you guys, three in a row is pretty darn impressive. The other members in this club are pretty stiff competition.I for one have learned alot this year, and have had alot of fun. Can't wait for Grand Lake.

september is here
It's good to be a part of a club that is too busy doing what it's intended purpose is rather than sit behind a computer and type all day. However, in an effort to make this blog a success to the creator. I thought it might be time to enter a new post. I wont take long because I have to go do what we do, FISH!!!!!! I sure hope everybody is having a great summer of fishing. The end of summer is getting closer and I am sure the blog will get busier than. See ya'll on Hubbard Lake in about a week. GOOD LUCK.

Brown Trout Walleye Weekend Tournament
Congrats go out to all members who fished and put up with a tougher than usual bite on the bay this past weekend.
Way to go Eric MacKenzie, John Kruttlin and Erich Carlson - these 3 took home the 1st place honors coming all the way from a 6# deficit in 3rd place on Saturday. They had the only double digit weight on Sun with 15+#. Way to hang in there.

Soo Fishing Dates Discussion
Let's use the blog to discuss the dates of the Soo event - just click the "Comments" link below the post rather than starting a new post.
I believe the weekend of August 29/30 is pretty much set in stone. The issue was having the tournament on Saturday vs. Sunday.
For those of you who haven't experiences our Soo trips, I'd encourage you to do so. In addition to some outstanding scenery and a truly unique fishery, there is a lot of fun with club members. People stay in motels, the campground at the launch or many stay in Kinross at the Countrywood Cabins. Usually many come up to fish Friday and Saturday before the event and there is a large outdoor fry-a-thon dinner on Saturday night with walleye, venison, turkey, etc hitting the fryers (more food than we all can eat...and good too!).
From a tournament/fishing perspective, it usually is the case of a few teams nailing it with numbers of large (5lbs+) fish, a few teams catching lots of small fish (14"-19"), a few teams catching a few fish and the rest of the teams struggling a bit. You can run bottom bouncers, troll cranks or harnesses, drift or troll rigs, pitch or vertical jig, etc - the fishery let's you experiment with many techniques.
Back to the date thing....the new idea of having the "tournament" on Saturday was to be able to talk about the successes or failures of fishing that night at the cookout (or fryout). It could be something of a learning/sharing session where everyone could see and learn what worked and then go out on Sunday and try for themselves if they desired.
A drawback would be that there would be one less day to find fish prefishing for many of the teams. The idea of sharing the information is somewhat stolen from Lance Valentine's Trophy Hunt trips if anyone has experienced them.
Anyway - this was long - thanks for reading, now what are your thoughts. Also please state whether you are planning to fish the Soo trip or not.
Thanks,
Bob

The Bay is HOT!
For those who have not been out in a few weeks, the bay is hot - not only the surface temp, but the fishing action as well.
Thanks to the tournament on the bay - it showed that at least 4 or 5 of the teams fished fairly close to the harbor in less than 18fow and did well. If you talked to some of the folks who fished (at tleast the ones who were willing to share a bit of info) you could certainly learn something about walleye location. Thanks go out to those who share information - that is what our club is about - helping others to be better anglers.
Obviously it was not a "secret" for very long as the area between Grass Is and the breakwall has been pounded over the past 2 weeks. The other evening I counted 28 boat/trailers in the lot and I think 22 of them were in the Grass Is-Breakwall area!
A mixed bag of sorts has been caught with the walleyes hanging in with catfish and sheephead. Not sure how long the fish are going to hang around there, but getting out while the getting is good has made sense for many.
Best of luck for those who venture out - the next TBWC tournament is on Sunday, July 12th. This is the weekend prior to the Brown Trout Festival.

Docks at Long Lake Park?
Has anyone checked to make sure the docks are in at Long Lake Park?
I was talking to someone that lives on the lake and they were complaining that the docks aren't in yet and they had to drive around to the DRN site to launch their boat.
I can't imagine why the park wouldn't have the docks in, but if someone lives out that way could you swing in and check?
This would be good information since we have a tourney there Sunday.

Thunder Bay Tournament on SATURDAY
Just a reminder that the first TBWC tournament of the 2009 season is this Sat on Thunder Bay launching from the harbor...I believe at 6:00PM???
Last year the top 6 teams were separated by less than 2lbs with 19.8# winning the event. The fishing gets better later in the month; however, this event is always well attended. Is it due to cabin fever and the first chance to get out? Perhaps the fish will really go and it will be a slugfest...that has been the case a few times in the past?
Anyway, good luck to those who participate.
